Hotel suffers extensive damage in major fire incident at ski resort of Gulmarg

Srinagar, A private hotel suffered extensive damage in a fire accident at the ski resort of Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday, officials said.

They said the tourists and the staff were evacuated safely from the hotel and there was no report of any loss of life or injury in the incident.

Fire and Emergency services officials said the fire broke out in the attic portion of the three storey hotel “Pine Palace” at snow bound Gulmarg at around 11.30 this morning.

They said the attic portion and the first floor of the hotel were extensively damaged in the fire incident.

“It took several hours for firefighters to control the leaping flames as the structure was mostly made of wood”, the officials said.

Several firefighting engines were also rushed from Srinagar, Tangmarg, Kunzer and Magam to douse the leaping flames.

The fire tenders who were sent from different stations had to face difficulties in reaching the spot amid accumulation of snow at Gulmarg.

The cause of the fire is being ascertained, they added.
