11 units of Northern Command to get COAS Unit Citations on Army Day

Jammu: As many as eleven units from the Northern Command will receive Chief of Army Staff Unit Citation on Army Day to be celebrated on January 15.
As per defence sources, 11 units have been finalised for this prestigious citation, which would be presented by the Chief of Army Staff.
Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane is the designate Army chief and will replace General Bipin Rawat.
Sources further added that the units receiving the Unit Citation from the Army Chief are: 1 RR (MAHAR), 3 RR (JAK RIF), 9RR (RAJ RIF), 13 RR (KUMAON), 19RR (SIKH LI), 23 PARA Bn (RAJ RIF), 5/3 GR, 8 BIHAR, 20 JAT, 262 Fd Regt and 53 Engr Regt.
Meanwhile, five units of Eastern Command namely 16 AR, 38 AR, 37 AR, 11 Bihar and 6 Grenadiers will also be awarded Unit Citation.
”The Northern Command units mostly be rewarded for their active participation and key role in Counter Insurgency operations in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” sources added.
The Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15 as a mark of respect to the Lieutenant General of India K M Cariappa (Kodandera Madappa Cariappa) who was the first Indian Army’s Commander-in-Chief.
It is celebrated every year at all the Army Command headquarters and the National Capital by organising Army parades, including many other military shows.
After paying homage, an excellent parade, including military, shows takes place to indicate the new technologies and accomplishments in the Indian Army.
Bravery awards, including Unit credentials and Sena Medals, are distributed on the occasion.
At the Army Day celebration in Jammu and Kashmir, serving Army personnel get the bravery and famed service awards (Sena medals, Vishist Seva medals and etc).
The day has been marked to memorise the daring Indian soldiers who lost their lives while protecting the nation.(UNI)
