JAMMU: The work on the prestigious Tawi River Front project in Jammu, which is being developed on the lines of Sabarmati Front in Gujarat, is in full swing and is expected to be completed very soon. It is pertinent to mention here that Lt Governor Manoj Sinha had inaugurated the Tawi River Front on February 12, 2022 and now the people of Jammu will get the gift of the first of its kind project in the current year. With the project cost being around Rs. 200 crores the target for the completion of the project was fixed as June 2023. The site of the project is abuzz with the sounds of heavy machineries including the JCBs and heavy earth movers and the construction works going all around.
It is pertinent to mention here that this project work is going on under the supervision of Jammu Smart City Limited and the mega transformation of the landscape would be witnessed right from Vikram Chowk to the fourth Tawi Bridge and this will prove to be a significant milestone in the direction of giving a big boost to Jammu Tourism. The Tawi River Front will have restaurants, cycling and jogging tracks, walk-way, seating arena besides interceptor drain and STP.
JMC Commissioner, Rahul Yadav while talking to Greater Jammu said that the new target set for the completion of this project has been fixed as September 2023. He added, “We are developing real estate along Tawi River Front for which we will have a parallel transacting department.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that the under construction River Tawi Front will surely enhance the quality of life of the citizens here. He said this while inspecting the progress of Tawi River Front Project. “Inspected the progress of the Tawi River Front Project. The vibrant riverfront will ensure urban infrastructure sustainability, unique business opportunities and it will enhance the quality of life of the citizens,” office of the Lieutenant Governor tweeted.
Meanwhile the work on the Tawi Barrage/Artificial Lake, a component of the Tawi River Front was reviewed by the Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta the other day. While highlighting that the Tawi Barrage is the prestigious artificial lake project of the government observed that the project will boost the tourism of Jammu city as modern and advanced means of recreational activities will be established in city with the completion of this project. He delved upon the officers to mobilise men and machinery so that the pondage as well as diaphragm walls of the project are completed before the onset of monsoons. He also directed the concerned executing agencies to complete them within the given timeline.
