W20 conducts outreach programme

JAMMU : The W20 conducted an outreach programme for the Gender Digital divide here today which was presided over by Dr. Sandhya Purecha.
As one of the key missions of the W20 the Gender Digital Divide, Dr. Sandhya Purecha visited the DPS Nagbani where a State of the Art, Computer laboratory has been set up by Founding Chairperson FICCI FLO JKL Kunwarani Ritu Singh in collaboration with NIIT and The Ashok Kapur Foundation under project Vriddhi.
Over 60 girls have graduated with Level 1 of the certified com- puter skilling by the NIIT Foundation. Keeping the tradition of the region intact the session started with paying obeisance to Shiv and Shakti.
Dr. Sandhya Purecha delivered an address emphasising on the importance of Digital Literacy to bridge the Gender Digital Divide.
Her words of wisdom were appre- ciated by the highly motivated stu- dents who gave a scintillating per- formance of the traditional Dogri song and dance as a mark of cele-
bration to the feats accomplished on the success of their results on their second round of examina- tions. Ritu Singh apprised the Chair and senior media persons present on the details of this highly successful project undertaken by her and the Digital Literacy drive.
Dr. Sandhya Purecha and Ritu Singh distributed certificates to the children and after which they visit- ed the Lab where the second batch of 25 girls learnt MS Word, Excel & Power point. They also have learned online services including aadhaar seva, passport registration, online pan card application and net banking. They have also learnt how
to make email id’s and Facebook accounts. Along with learning card designing and printing of docu- ments, which they shared with all present.
They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Kunwarani Ritu Singh and her team of teachers for the prestigious NIIT certification which has fetched them glory and increased their levels of confidence multifold. The Ashok Kapur Foundation is supporting these girl children to avail of mainstream extra curricular activities like English speaking, dance, theatre & music integrating them with the urban girl child.
