Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), under the leadership of Dr. K. S. Risam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J and able guidance and direction of Dr. J. P. Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-J organised Farmers Field Day at Advanced Centre for Rainfed Agriculture (ACRA), Rakh Dhiansar.
More than 100 farmers from different villages of Samba and Jammu districts have participated and interacted with SKUAST-J scientists regarding the latest scientific agro-techniques of cultivation of various rainfed crops in the area.
Dr. K. S. Risam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J was the chief guest of the programme. The programme was mainly organized to impart the knowledge regarding the scientific cultivation of various rain fed crops in the areas.
The main emphasis of the programme was to improve the productivity of crops especially under changing climatic conditions.
Dr. K. S. Risam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J stressed upon the farmers to get organized and emphasized on crop diversification through profitable enterprises like poultry, livestock, horticulture, apiculture etc. other than the traditional agriculture.
He stressed for reducing the production costs for improving the profits. He also appealed the farmers to go for silage making for conserving surplus fodder during main season which will help them in increasing milk production during lean season.
