Srinagar, Kashmir is set to host its maiden 11-day rural women oriented national level Saras Aajeevika fair in Srinagar from Wednesday, officials said.
Indu Kawal Chib, Mission Director, Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) said that the first of its kind rural women fair will commence from March 15 to March 25 at Boulevard road on the banks of Dal Lake in which all women participants of 17 states and Union Territories will sell their products.
“Besides handlooms and handicrafts of different states would be on display and sale, food stalls recreational of rural women would also be part of the fair,” she told reporters ahead of the fair.
“This will set an example for women empowerment led by the women only”, JKRLM mission director said.
She said that the rural women will showcase the goods made by them and will also sell and prepare food and serve to the visitors themselves.
The Director said that rural women should decide whether she wants to increase the income of her home with these schemes.
“The moment she takes the decision we are there”, she said.
A total of 70 stalls shall be put on display in the Mela. That includes around 15 food stalls serving regional cuisines from different parts of the country.
