SAMBA : There seems no end to the menace of over speeding and over loading in buses and mini buses as the same continues unabated on the roads of Samba and that too under the nose of the Traffic Police.
Despite the tall claims of the Traffic Police and Motor Vehicle Department there seems no end to the menace of rash driving and overloading in long route buses as well as local minibuses thereby posing a severe threat to the precari- ous lives of the people who are travelling in these vehi- cles and others who are on foot.
The tall claim of the
Traffic Police and Motor Vehicle Department of launching drives against the offenders have failed to yield positive results as the overloading and over speeding continues unabat- ed.
According to the eye witnesses, overloading con- tinues in the district unabat- ed and unfortunately both the departments have failed to take action against the offenders.
On the main routes including the border routes of Samba and Sumb there is no checking on overload- ing. The mini buses which are plying on these routes are mostly overloaded and tot only this, the rash driv- ing also continues on these
routes, they added. “One of the commuters while accusing both the departments of not taking any cognizance of the same said, buses plying from vil- lage Goran are mostly over- loaded with passengers on roof top and students hang- ing from the railing of the matadors. Although the Traffic Police lays nakkas on various places of Samba town but has failed to take action against the offend- ers”. “Several times the over- loaded vehicles pass in front of the cops, two and four wheelers openly flout the norms under the nose of Traffic Police which is a cause of concern for the commuters”.
Although the Traffic Police lays nakkas on the National Highway but unfortunately the cops on duty fail to stop the menace of overloading. The most worrying situation arises when the students hang on railings of the matadors plying on the National Highway which shows how the Traffic Police is work- ing in the district, said one of the commuters.
