Nearly 230 fencers taking part in J&K UT C’ship at Jammu’s Stadium

Jammu,  Around 230 fencers from different districts are taking part in a two-day J&K UT Open Fencing Championship commenced on Friday here at Indoor Fencing Hall, Maulana Azad Stadium.

Almost 230 fencers from all across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are participating in the Championship being organized by the Adhoc Committee, J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with J&K Sports Council.

Notably, J&K Sports Council is facilitating smooth conduct of the Championship by providing equipment and other logistic support.

Convener, Adhoc Committee, Rashid Ahmed Choudhary has expressed gratitude to the Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul for much required support to conduct the championship.

A healthy participation from almost all the districts of the Union Territory like Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, Doda is much appreciable and signifies how the sport of fencing is reaching every nook and corner with the cooperation and efforts of the Ad-hoch committee members mostly comprised of national and international fencers, said Choudhary.

Supriya Chouhan, another member of the Ad-hoc Committee welcomed the participants and encouraged them in her address in the opening remarks.

The bouts were officiated by Maninder Pal Singh, Member Adhoc Committee, Rachna Jamwal, Senior Coach and Shotu Lal Sharma, Instructor.

Besides, Bhisham Singh Slathia acted as Competition Director, Adarsh Slathia as Organising Secretary in the championship with the assistance of Anthony Mattoo, Ajay Khartol, Maninder Pal Singh, Tony Mattoo, Suniya Mattoo, Javed Ahmed, Mohd. Tariq, Ranchan Sabarwal, Rahul Sharma, Vir Sangram, Teja Singh, Abdul Rafiq, Ankush Gupta and Vishal Thapar.

As per official results issued by the Ad-hoc Committee, in Under-14 Foil Boys category, Raghav from Jammu claimed Gold Medal, Udyan from Jammu won silver while Satyam and Anuj, both from Udhampur, won first and second medal respectively.

In Under-14 Sabre Boys: Vansh Raina from Kathua (Gold), Dev Karan from Jammu (Silver), Harnidh Singh, Shivang Gupta, both from Jammu (Bronze), in U-14 Foil Girls: Mayra Rajput from Jammu (Gold), Kavya Rajput from Jammu (Silver), Aahana and Nandini, both from Jammu (Bronze), in U-14 Epee Girls: Pradita from Jammu (Gold), Arshi from Udhampur (Silver), Ayushi from Udhampur, Tanishka from Jammu (Bronze), U-17L Foil Boys: Rampal from Udhampur (Gold) Manjoot from Udhampur (Silver), Kanav from JK Mont and Harsh from Jammu (Bronze), in U-17 Sabre Boys: Anish from Jammu (Gold), Dhanjay from Kathua (Silver), Harman and Manik, both from Jammu (Bronze), in U-14 Epee Boys: Tanmay Dogra from Jammu (Gold), Umar Khan from Jammu (Silver), Ridhiman and Aman, both from Jammu (Bronze), in U-17 Epee Girls: Kalash from Jammu (Gold), Janvi from Jammu (Silver), Ridhima and Arushi, both from Samba (Bronze).
