Srinagar, Police on Friday claimed to have arrested six drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from them in Kashmir valley.
A Police party during routine patrolling at Shranz Crossing Tangmarg in north Kashmir district of Baramulla arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohammad Ashraf Malla a resident of Dodbugh.
During search, 50 grams of contraband charas and cash amount of Rs 27,300,believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime, was recovered from his possession, police said and added the accused was arrested.
Meanwhile, a Police party at a checkpoint established at Hamrey Pattan arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohammad Yaqoob Dar a resident of Renji Pattan. During the search, 96 Tablets of SpasmoProxyvon Plus and 10 Syrups of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from his possession.
Similarly, Police Station Boniyar at a checkpoint established near Ijara Crossing Bridge Boniyar intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During the search, 90grams of Charas, 800grams of dry cannabis leaves and cash amount of Rs 41,355 believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime, were recovered from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Amin Sheikh of Ijara Boniyar.
Moreover, a police party at a checkpoint established at Rawathpora Delina intercepted a vehicle and during the search, 10grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from his possession.
He has been identified as Zahid Hussain Wani resident of Hardushiva Sopore. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle in which the accused was travelling have also been seized.
In Kulgam, a special police at a checkpoint established near Zadoora Crossing on NHW-44 intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag. During the search, 6 sticks of charas-like substance weighing around 100 grams were recovered from the said bag from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Safeer Ahmad Dar a resident of Nowpora has been arrested.
In Awantipora, a Police Party of Police Station arrested one drug peddler at Tulbagh Pampore and during search, 1Kg 100 grams of cannabis powder (charas Powder) was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Basir Manzoor Akhoon of Tulbagh Pampore was arrested.
Accordingly, all the drug peddlers were arrested and lodged in respective police stations besides cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and further investigation has been initiated, police said.
