Four persons were killed and nine others injured when a minivan rammed into a truck after being hit by the vehicle in Fatehpur Sikri in Agra district here in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, police sources said here.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and has directed the district administration officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
Police sources said that the incident took place in the morning when the minivan carrying a marriage party from Rajsamand district in Rajasthan was going to Patna in Bihar. “Near Korai toll place a truck hit the minivan in an attempt to overtake it. During this the van driver lost control and rammed the vehicle in the truck,” they said.
Police sources said that a total of 13 people, including two drivers, were travelling in the van. “The injured were somehow taken out of the badly damaged van and were taken to the SN Medical College Agra. The groom’s relatives Paima Ram, Hem Ram, Tara Devi and driver Pravin died in the accident,” they said.
Police sources said that the injured were being treated at the SN medical college, where the condition of groom Naina Ram is stated to be serious. “The groom’s brother-in-law Chandra Prakash told the police that Naina’s marriage was fixed in Patna. He said that they left Saraur village in Rajsamand district in Rajasthan on Friday night and were expected to reach Patna by Saturday noon,” they said.
