Football Fails To Engage Audience In Kathua

Football, the world’s most popular game has failed to engage audience  at the maiden National level competition, 73 rd Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy (North Zone qualifying round) that begun at the picturesque SMVDSB Sports Stadium at holy town of Katra in district Reasi today.

A small gathering of around 500 persons that too comprised of mostly the football lovers from Jammu and those school students, who had come with their baggage and left the venue without watching the full game, were there to witness the inaugural of the mega event.

Finding it a low key affair, the Advisor to the Governor, K Vijay Kumar, chief guest of the inaugural function, left the venue soon after he declared open the event amidst interaction with the teams from J&K and Uttrakhand as also those office bearers of the J&K Football Association (JKFA) and the members of the technical penal.

However, those associated with the game of football and natives of district Reasi were hopeful of big crowd turn up in future events. “People from the villages, sometimes, hesitate to come to the big events. I’m confident of improvement in the footfall of sports lovers in such future events.

The game of football has gained its ground in the district with the opening of SFA coaching facility at Reasi by the J&K State Sports Council,” said Rahul Bakshi, who serves with Department of Youth Services and
Sports (DYSS) and associated with the SFA Reasi.
