Jammu : The former Jammu and Kashmir Sports Minister, R S Chib on Sunday inaugurated a week-long lawn tennis coaching camp under ‘My Youth My Pride’, an initiative of J&K Sports Council, here at Lawn Tennis Courts in Maulana Azad Stadium.
The camp is being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association (JKLTA).
Nearly 50 budding lawn tennis players will be attending the camp under the guidance of All India Tennis Association (AITA) affiliated coaches, Ichiraibe Salie and Hanumant Singh, who is also the Joint Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association.
“This is an opportunity for the lawn tennis lovers and those who want to professionally adopt this sport to attend the camp under the guidance of the trained coaches,” said Chib, who is also president of the Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association.
He added that earlier due to lack of facilities, the calendar of activities could not be conducted in routine but the association is grateful to the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council under the leadership of its Secretary, Nuzhat Gul that infrastructure has been given the priority.
“Infrastructure is a major requirement to bring results in sport and J&K Sports Council is developing facilities in every nook and corner, which will bring a sea change in the field of sports,” said Chib.
Administrative Officer, J&K Sports Council, Riaz Sheikh and Public Relation Officer, Jahangir Mir, were also present on the occasion.
General Secretary of the Association, Capt. Murti Gupta added, “A coaching camp was earlier conducted at Srinagar and second camp started here from Sunday and the association in future will be holding regular activities as per the calendar in an organised manner.”
Other association members B S Jaggi, Treasurer, Arun Gupta, C A Amit Gupta, Vishal Bharti, Dr Gaurav Vaid and Advocate Ajay Gandotra were among the attendees.
