Inderjeet Kesar, Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq among winners

NEW DELHI, DEC 5: Inderjeet Kesar and Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq are among the winners of Sahitya Akademi Award in Dogri (For novel Bhagirath) and in Kashmiri (for short stories collection Aakh) respectively. The prestigious annual Sahitya Akademi awards for litterateurs were announced here on Wednesday.
Seven books of poetry, six of short stories, three of literary criticism and two of essays have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2018. Samanta Tanti (Assamese), Paresh Narendra Kamat (Konkani), S Ramesan Nair (Malayalam), Dr Mohanjit (Punjabi), Dr Rakesh Kumar Vyas (Rajasthani), Dr Rama Kant Shukla (Sanskrit) and Khiman U Mulani (Sindhi) were adjudged winners for their collection of poetry.
Inderjeet Kesar (Dogri), Anees Salim (English), Chitra Mudgal (Hindi), Shyam Besra (Santali), S Ramakrishnan (Tamil) and Rahman Abbas (Urdu) will receive the award in the category of novels. Award winners in the category of short stories were Sanjib Chattopadhyay (Bengali), Rituraj Basumatary (Bodo), Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq (Kashmiri), Prof Bina Thakur (Maithili), Budhichandra Heisnamba (Manipuri) and Lok Nath Upadhyay Chapagain (Nepali).
K G Nagarajappa (Kannada), Ma Su Patil (Marathi) and Prof. Dasarathi Das (Odia) have been awarded for their works on literary criticism. Prof Sharifa Vijliwala (Gujarati) and Dr Kolakaluri Enoch (Telugu) have been awarded for their essays.
Meanwhile, Governor Satya Pal Malik, Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Secretary Information, Sarmad Hafeez and Director Information, Tariq Ahmad Zargar have felicitated Mushtaq for being conferred with the prestigious literary award.
Mushtaq was given this year’s award for his collection of short stories titled ‘Aakh’.
‘Aakh’ is a collection of 18 short stories that was chosen from the 13 books in Kashmiri language.
The writer is presently posted as head of the regional news unit at Radio Kashmir Srinagar.
He has served in Doordarshan news unit at Srinagar Kendra for nine years apart from having worked in other media units of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as an Indian Information Service (IIS) officer.
