Women wings demand strict action against those involved in eve-teasing

LEH, OCT 3: All religious and political women wings held a press conference today at PCL office regarding the eve-teasing case of a girl student.
While addressing the press conference, nominated Councillor Rinchen Lhamo referred to an incident that took place on September 30, 2018 around 5:45 pm with the girl students at Leh Market.
“Two individuals harassed and insulted girls by passing unwanted comments and obscene remarks in a public place due to which people who were present there intervened to protect the dignity of the girls leading to a scuffle between culprits and those who helped the girls from being harassed and insulted,’ Lhamo addressed.
“We, the undersigned representatives from different religious and political organisations of Leh, seek liberty to invite your kind intervention to an eve-teasing case wherein police, under the direction of Dy SP headquarter, has involved themselves in shielding the culprits by further victimizing the victims,” she said anguishly.
“Girls reported to Police Station Leh for registration of an FIR against the individuals but to their utter dismay and shock, police bluntly refused to register an FIR against the persons involved. Instead, very shockingly, they resorted to beating innocent students and those, who helped the girls, have been booked under non-bailable sections. Later, we found out that the miscreants who eve-teased the girls are none other than police personnel in civil dress,” she added.
She further said, “We cannot remain silent spectators to such disgraceful acts of some police personnel, we appeal to an inquiry into the case to award the culprits with exemplary punishments and also immediately otherwise they will call for strike.”
