REASI, SEP 13: The Inter-Collegiate Fencing (Men & Women) Cchampionship 2018-19 of the University of Jammu was inaugurated today at the Govt General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College Reasi. A number of teams from various colleges affiliated with the University of Jammu are participating in the three-day long competition. DC Reasi, Prasanna Ramaswamy G was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
While interacting with participants, the DC encouraged them to participate in the events whole heartedly and with commitment for achieving good results. He also congratulated the college administration and staff for organizing the championship in Reasi, which will provide good exposure to the players of the district.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Dr S P Sarswat, in his welcome address presented a detailed report of various activities undertaken by the college. National Fencer and Assistant Professor of the College, Ajay Kumar also shared his experiences on the occasion. P D Singh from the University of Jammu and Kabla Singh, Vice-Chairman Peace Foundation, J&K were the Special Guests on the occasion. Prof Suman Bala conducted the proceeding while Dr Prem Singh presented formal vote of thanks.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Dr Chander Mohan, Dr Rakesh Bharti, Dr Surya Partap Singh, Rakesh Meenia, Suman Lata, Sanjay Verma and Omar Abdullah.
On the inaugural day, Foil team-event (Men) was held. In the first bout, MIET Jammu beat GDC Poonch by 14-11 while in second bout, host GGZSM Degree College beat GDC Udhampur by 15-2. The matches were officiated by a technical panel including Rachana Jamwal, Ajay Kumar, Shriya chib and Ravinder Kumar.
