Jammu, Sep 12: The Security Forces on Wednesday evening suspended the search operation which was being carried out in view of terror attack and terrorists escaped from the spot while the traffic on the highway has been diverted from Bajalta-Surinsar road as preventive measure.
Meanwhile one of the civilians also suffered injuries when terrorists opened fire at a check point near Jhajjar Kotli here on city outskirts.
“The operation has been suspended due to darkness while no contact has been established so far,” Vivek Gupta, SSP Jammu here said.
The operation will resume with first light tomorrow.
Panic gripped the Jammu-Srinagar national highway this morning when terrorists attacked the check post near Jhajjar Kotli.
“During routine checking of vehicles, suspected terrorists travelling in a truck opened fire at the frisking party,” police sources here said.
They said that 3 terrorists fled away from the spot while police, army and CRPF launched search operation to apprehend them but so far no contact has been established.
“The driver and the helper of the truck have been detained while one Ak rifle with 3 magazines was also recovered from the truck,” sources added.
However, a civilian sustained injuries and identified as Ganesh Dass,54, son of Tara Chand, resident of Jhajjar Kotli. He has been hospitalised, police added.
Meanwhile schools in the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli were closed as preventive measure, they added.
Jammu and Kashmir Police on its official page of twitter also posted that one AK and 3 magazines recovered from the intercepted truck.
“Driver, conductor taken into custody. Three suspected militants who ran away from the truck are being chased. Police army and CRPF are activated. Cordon and search operation is on ahead of Suketar near Katra crossing National Highway,” it said.
Official spokesman said that in view of present security situation there will be restrictions on vehicles movement from Nagrota to Jhajjar Kotli for tonight.
“There will be diversion from Nagrota and vehicles will have to go by alternate road i,e Surinsar route and Manyal road,” he added.
Hours after terrorists fired at a police party, Police issued look out notice claiming that the terrorists were three in number.
“On Wednesday morning at about 0800 brief encounter took place between police and terrorists in Jhajjar nalla near police station Jhajjar Kotli,” police spokesman here said.
He said that the terrorists managed to escape in Jhajjar Kotli area and being searched by police army and CRPF.
“They (terrorists) are three in number between age group 18 to 22 years, all are putting pithus and two of them have AK rifles and third one with pistol,” said the spokesman adding that one of them is wearing Pathan dress and two have pants shirt.
“Anyone if happens to see them or have any knowledge about them should inform police on SSP PCR Jammu and he would be suitably rewarded,” said police.
National Conference Provincial President and MLA Nagrota Devender Singh Rana condemned the incident of firing on para-military forces near Jajjar Kotli Police Post, saying the peace loving people of his Constituency will fight terror in all its manifestations with full might
“Terrorism is a biggest challenge to the civilized world and this scourge is needed to be fought unitedly and condemned in strongest words”, Rana told media persons covering the search operations in the area, adding that there is no place for terror violence in the society.
The MLA Nagrota camped at the site for the entire day to oversee the civilian population is not affected due to firing and collateral damage is averted.
He visited various localities to boost morale of the civilian population, which, he said, is co-operating the security forces in carrying out search operations.
He lauded the fortitude of the patriotic people of the area, saying they want end to the dastardly and unfortunate incident.
To a question, Rana said that strategically located Nagrota Constituency at the National Highway will not allow any sort of terror either to germinate or sustain on its soil. He said people of the constituency, as elsewhere in the State, would stand guard against any machination aimed at weakening the national security.
“The terror war against Indian nation is destined to fail with the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi”, the Provincial President said, adding that the people are with the security forces and the police in fight against terror.
