JAMMU, SEP 6: Jammu and Kashmir Police chief SP Vaid has been removed from his post. The government today appointed Dilbag Singh as the new Director General of police (DGP) relieving Dr Vaid, who held the post for nearly two years.
Singh, who is currently holding the charge of DGP (Prisons), was appointed as new DGP of the state.
The order in this regard was issued by the Home Department late in the evening.
“Dr SP Vaid is transferred and his services are placed at the disposal of General Administration Department for further posting as Transport Commissioner,” the order issued by R K Goyal, Principal Secretary to government , Home Department read.
Dilbag Singh, an IPS officer of the 1987 batch, would be the DGP apart from holding the post of DG (Prisons).
The removal of Vaid came two days after Additional Director General, CID, Abdul Gani Mir was replaced by B Srinivasan, who had returned from central deputation.
The reshuffle became necessary as Centre and the new Governor Satya Pal Malik were not happy over the spike in the incidents of militancy in the Valley, especially the abduction of 12 relatives of policemen by the militants in south Kashmir last week. All 12 were freed unharmed after the father of a top Hizbul Mujahideen was released.
