Jammu celebrates Janamashtami with religious fervour

Jammu, Sep 3: The Winter Capital of Jammu and Kashmir, famous as the ‘City of Temples’ on Monday gave a festive look as people celebrated Krishna Janmashtami with great pomp and fanfare amid chants of ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’. Devotees thronged Shri Raghunath Temple, famous Lord Krishna Temple situated at Rani Park and other temples to offer prayers. Special security arrangements were made in all the temples in view of festival.
Enthusiastic people carrying flowers, idols of Lord Krishna visited holy places and offered prayers. Meanwhile children attired as Lord Krishna took part in cultural items and ‘Jhankis’ were taken out at various places with active participation of womenfolk singing ‘bhakti songs’ in the celebrations. Some people, especially youth and children marked the celebrations by flying kites on the roof-tops of their houses.
Earlier on Saturday, a colourful procession was also taken out on the eve of Janamashtami by Shri Sanatam Dharam Sabha in association with other religious and social organizations.
