J&K’s Bhanu Pratap dedicates Asian Games medal to police martyrs’, families

JAMMU, AUG 27: The bronze medallist in the ongoing Asian Games, Bhanu Pratap Singh of Jammu and Kashmir today dedicated his medal to the police martyrs’ and their families at a function here.
Bhanu scripted history by becoming the first player from the state to win medal (bronze) in Asian Games being held at Jakarta-Palembang (Indonesia).
Bhanu lost the semifinal bout to his counterpart from Iran in Wushu event due to injury.
“I want to dedicate my medal to the police martyrs’ who sacrificed their lives for the country and their families,” Bhanu told reporters at the sidelines of a felicitation function organised by the J&K State Sports Council alongwith J&K Police.
He said if gets opportunity to serve the nation, he will dedicate his life for country’s pride and welfare of martyrs’ families.
State Police Chief Dr S P Vaid, however, congratulated Bhanu Pratap for his achievement and his coach Kuldeep Handoo, who also accompanied the team as Coach.
“We will recommend the names of Bhanu Pratap and Kuldeep Handoo for their induction as Deputy Superintendent of Police in the J&K Police Department,” Dr Vaid told reporters.
Handoo is already serving as Inspector in the state police.
He, however, also invited the duo to Srinagar to attend a felicitation ceremony.
Vice Chairman, District State Sports Council, Ranjeet Kalra said, “It is a proud moment for all of us and Bhanu deserves more than that.” “The Sports Council held a function to honour Bhanu and his coach while he will also soon be felicitated by the government in Srinagar,” said Kalra.
Meanwhile, the DGP earlier, addressing the gathering said that Bhanu has not only made the state proud but the entire country.
“Well done Bhanu,” said the DGP.
However, on their arrival in Jammu, Bhanu was given a rousing welcome at the Airport. He was garlanded by the sports fraternity.
Bhanu and his coach were later taken to the function venue in the shape of a victory rally.
