Vajpayee was only PM to understand Kashmir, says Mehbooba; Regional leaders pay homage

SRINAGAR: A galaxy of regional party leaders on Friday rising above party lines paid rich tributes to Atal Bihari Vajpayee with former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti hailing the former Prime Minister for his exemplary vision on the Kashmir imbroglio.
“Jis tarah Vajpayeeji nei Kashmir ke logon ke zakhmo pei malham laganei ki koshish ki aisa kisi nei nahi kiya (The manner he tried to give healing touch to the agonies of Kashmiri people, no one has done so)”, Mufti told reporters here.
The PDP leader who attended the last rites ceremony of Vajpayee at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, said,
“The demise of Atal Bihari Vajpayee is not only a loss for the country, it is big loss for the people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
The solemn function in the national capital amid humid weather was attended among others by DMK leaders TR Baalu and A Raja.
Both the DMK leaders were part of the Vajpayee Ministry. It is significant to know that the new DMK chief MK Stalin paid his respect to Vajpayee by laying a wreath on Thursday evening at Vajpayee’s residence.
DMK parted ways with NDA in early 2004 over the issue of Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) brought by the Vajpayee government.
“The nation has lost an outstanding leader and statesman. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this moment”, Mr Stalin has tweeted.
In another unique gesture, a prominent regional party leader Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party, took to the social networking site Twitter and posted the photograph of his wedding with lawmaker Dimple Yadav, when Vajpayee had come to bless the couple.
In his missive, former UP Chief Minister wrote that the former Prime Minister always rose above party lines and maintained that Late Vajpayee will always remain an inspiration to millions of Indians. (UNI)
