Congress observes ‘Quit India Day’

JAMMU, AUG 9: In connection with the ‘Quit India Day’ anniversary, an impressive function was held here today at PCC HQ Shahid Chowk Jammu, in which senior leaders of PCC, DCC and frontal organizations besides a large number of prominent workers participated and remembered sacrifices and contributions of late leaders led by Mahatma Gandhi. The function was presided over by Vice-president PCC, Raman Bhalla, while senior leaders including Mula Ram, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Ravinder Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Balwan Singh, Manmohan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Indu Pawar, Hari Sing Chib, Pranav Shagotra, B S Sambyal, Krishan Lal Gupta and others addressed the gathering. The functionaries and leaders of District Congress Committee, Block Congress Committee, Seva Dal Congress, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress also attended in large number.
Raman Bhalla, in his address, paid rich tributes to great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, Subash Chander Bose, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, Dr B R Ambedkar and other top leaders, who made numerous contributions and sacrifices to achieve freedom of the country. He said, “BJP stands exposed before people being power hungry besides compromising and surrendering interests of Jammu region. There was total discrimination during their regime. But, it cannot befool people of Jammu region anymore, by giving emotional slogans.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mula Ram recalled the contributions of great national leaders, who suffered a lot and went to jails for achieving freedom. He said that the present Government is trying to distort the history to malign the role of Congress leaders. He regretted that BJP-RSS are trying to mislead future generations and belittle Congress leaders by changing names of historical places and events took place in the past.
Ravinder Sharma said that the freedom struggle of the country, launched by Congress Party (INC), led by father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, served a final ultimatum to the British to quit India on 9th August 1942, and finally forced the British, through non-violent and peaceful means, to leave the country. He said that the Quit India Movement has great importance in the history of freedom struggle of our country. Earlier, Jugal Kishore Sharma flagged off a rally of Congress Seva Dal led by it newly appointed Chief, Rajesh Sadotra from Gandhi Bhawan Shalamar road, which reached Congress HQ Shaheedi Chowk for participating in the Quit India Day function.
