Acting CJ administers oath to two judges of J&K High Court

JAMMU, AUG 7: Acting Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, Justice Alok Aradhe today administered oath of office to two newly appointed judges of J&K High Court at a modest oath ceremony held in the Court Room of the Chief Justice here at High Court Complex.
The Judges who took oath of office are Justice Sindhu Sharma and Justice Rashid Ali Dar. It is worthwhile to mention here that Sindhu Sharma is first lady Judge in the J&K High Court
Earlier, the Warrants of Appointments of new Judges issued by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind were read out by the Registrar General of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, Sanjay Dhar.
Registrar General Sanjay Dhar also read the Letter of Authorization issued by Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, authorizing Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, to administer the oath of office to the newly appointed Judges.
Congratulating the newly appointed Judges, the Acting Chief Justice wished them a successful tenure ahead.
With the appointment of these two judges, the strength of High Court goes to 10.
Galaxy of Judges, Dignitaries and Guests was present on the occasion. B B Vyas Advisor to Governor, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Justice M. K. Hanjura and D.C. Raina Advocate General, J&K State were also present at the oath taking ceremony. Chief Secretary J&K State BVR Subrahmanyam, Director General of Police SP Vaid, Chairman, Human Rights Commission J&K, Former Judges of High Court of J&K, Secretary Law, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Judicial officers, Law Officer and staff of the High Court Registry, family members and friends of newly appointed Judges were also present on the occasion.
Advocate Sindhu Sharma born on October 10, 1972 was Assistant Solicitor General of India in J&K High Court’s Jammu Wing and she was the first lady Advocate of State to be appointed as Assistant Solicitor General of India. She cleared LL.B in the year 1996, from Punjab University, Chandigarh, in First Division, B.A (Hons) in the year 1993, from Government College for Girls, Sector 11 Chandigarh, holding third position in Sociology Honours in Punjab University.
She was enrolled as an Advocate vide enrolment no:814/96, and had been practicing as an Advocate at High Court and District Courts of Jammu and Kashmir at Jammu since 1996. She was appointed Assistant Solicitor General of India for Jammu & Kashmir High Court at Jammu in Nov. 2014 for a period of 3 years and further granted extension for a period of 3 years in November, 2017. She was also Counsel for NHPC, Power Grid Corporation of India and JDA. She was also elected as Vice President of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu in the year 2013.
Rashid Ali Dar who retired as Principal District and Session Judge Srinagar on November 30, 2017, born in economically backward Brinjan village of Chadoora Tehsil in Budgam district, received his earlier education in the local area up to primary classes in village Brinjan. He did his graduation from Amar Singh College in 1977-78 and L.L.B from University of Kashmir in 1980. He joined the Bar in May 1980, practiced in Munsiff Court Chadoora, District Court Budgam, District Court Srinagar and High Court up to June 1984. Rashid Ali Dar had been president of Bar Association Chadoora up to June 1984. He has been petitioner in two PILs as a legal practitioner challenging distribution system while alleging it to be discriminatory in nature against villages which had been given less quota of rice than city residents and electricity tariff. He had been founder/ chairman of N.G.O Green Peace J&K Srinagar and Human Right Society. He qualified combined competitive examination in 1984 and joined Administrative Service, commonly known as K.A.S in June 1984. Having undergone training of revenue matters/ accountancy and about various managerial skills during probation, he left the Administrative Services in January 1987 and joined KCS judicial thus worked as Munsiff Mahore District Reasi, Munsiff Sumbal District Bandipora, Munsiff Udhampur, Ist Munsiff in Jammu, Munsiff Chadoora, Munsiff Sub-Registrar Srinagar, Munsiff Pulwama and Munsiff Bandipora. He was promoted as Sub-Judge in 1996 and joined as Sub-Judge Ramnagar, Sub-Judge Wakf J&K, Deputy Registrar High Court Srinagar, Sub Judge/Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam, City Judge Srinagar, Chief Judicial Magistrate / Sub Registrar Srinagar and Sub Judge / Chief Judicial Magistrate Anantnag. He was promoted as District Judge in April 2007 and worked as Special Judge TADA/POTA 2nd Additional District and Session Judge Srinagar and Special Judge Anti Corruption. JNF
