In the wake of intelligence inputs regarding terrorist outfits planning a major strike on the Independence Day in India especially in the National capital Delhi and the arrest of Irfan Hussain Wani of south Kashmir from Gandhi Nagar locality of Jammu alongwith recovery of eight grenades and Rs 60,000 from his possession it becomes imperative to maintain a hawk’s eye vigil during the coming days. The revelation by this Al-Qaida linked Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror group militant that the group is desperately trying to disrupt the Independence Day celebrations in Delhi should be taken up quite seriously. Going by the past experience during this season every year the sponsors of terrorism from across the border become much proactive as besides the Independence Day there are celebrations of various other festivals during this period. This season the people in India and especially in the state of Jammu and Kashmir are anxiously waiting to celebrate the festivals of Raksha Bandhan, Janam Ashtami and Eid-ul-Adha. With only few days left for the Independence Day celebrations the security agencies are expected to be on the highest degree of vigil across the nation particularly in this volatile state which is passing through a time testing phase. Though the forces guarding our borders besides those in the hinterland have been successful in nabbing or eliminating the terrorists either during infiltration or even thereafter yet there are apprehensions about presence of militants across the state who have succeed in escaping the eye of the forces and plan to strike in a big way. There are apprehensions of locally grown militants displaying their existence with August 14 and August 15 round the corner. The Jammu police chief confirmed that the 25-year-old terrorist’s affiliation with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind led by Zakir Mussa and added that he was in touch with number two of the outfit, Rehan, which further raises apprehensions of the locals being yet again lured into militancy by the global terror groups which undoubtedly is a disturbing trend and needs to be arrested at the very first instance. Though the IGP Jammu stated that a major chance of disturbing the Independence Day celebrations in Delhi and parts of Jammu has been foiled, yet there is every probability of multiple terror groups having tasked multiple cadres with carrying explosives to different destinations across the nation to ensure their success, a fact that the security agencies can’t ignore or take lightly. Despite the IGP claiming it to be the result of robust security measures put in place by the police to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations in Jammu, it needs to be realized that there will definitely be presence of sleeper cells not only in Jammu but even in Delhi and other cities across the nation which makes it necessary to put the security agencies on an unprecedented level high alert. While there is assurance of high level vigilance by the police and security forces, at the same time there is a dire need in such situations for the citizens at the individual as well as collective level to maintain close vigil on the suspicious elements who are fuelling the situation for their personal gains and endangering the lives of innocent people. It is expected that adequate man power would be deployed for maintenance of law and order at the venues where Independence Day functions besides other festivals will be held during this season so that the security grid is stepped up to unprecedented level leaving no scope for any untoward incident during celebrations.
