Heroin worth Rs 250 crores seized, 2 held

JAMMU: A police team on Monday after foiling an attempt of conducting serial grenade blasts in Jammu and New Delhi, cracked another case by arresting two persons with heron worth crores from Gandhi Nagar area here.
“Police team including of Special Operation Group on specific inputs, early Monday morning established a joint Naka and in accordance to the input one Truck (JK02AD-3965) was stopped at Rajeev Nagar Chowk,” S D Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu Zone told reporters here this evening.
He added that on questioning driver and helper disclosed their names as Gurjeet Singh, resident of Digiana Ashram and Ravi Kumar, resident of Raipur Satwari , adding, “the truck was loaded with rags and paper and only after persistent questioning the driver disclosed that he was carrying (51 packets ) approximately 50 Kg Heroin in a specially created space in the back wall of the drivers cabin which can opened from backside after empting the truck”.
The top cop said that thereafter in the presence of Magistrate and Photography team from crime and territorial officers, the search of vehicle conducted and 51 packets of contraband (Heroin) were recovered.
The heroin is worth Rs 300 crore in international market.
Later Dr Jamwal also convened a joint meeting of senior Officers of security officers to discuss various security measures to be taken in the run up to August 15 and also to take stock of the progress of the security and other allied arrangements being made for the Independence Day celebration through-out Jammu province.
Besides, detailed intelligence assessment by State and Central Intelligence Agencies, DIG JK Range, SSP Jammu, SSP Security gave a detailed account of the security arrangements that have been put in place in the run up to August 15 in and around Jammu City including Border areas and also spoke about the Police, Security and traffic arrangements that are being proposed to be made for Independence Day celebrations.
The Jammu Zone Police Chief also asked the officers to work in close coordination with each other for greater synergy as the goal is common.
He asked the Intelligence Agencies, Police and SFs Officers to step up vigil and security in the District right from now onwards to check any attempt of infiltration, movement of anti-national elements and forestall any ill-conceived plan of terrorists.
Besides, a close watch should be kept on social media activities.
A detailed review of the prevailing security scenario, throughout Jammu zone, was taken. The intelligence agencies also gave their assessments about the prevailing situation particularly in Chenab valley and Rajouri -Poonch District.
