Differs with Beigh over corruption

SRINAGAR: Differences emerged between two senior leaders of the PDP here on Saturday, when they gave contradictory statements about some former ministers.
This happened between former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and Member Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Beigh at a function to mark party’s 19th foundation day.
In his address, Beigh said that corruption increased even during the tenure of Mehbooba as CM of the state. He said, “Mehbooba Ji, during her tenure as Chief Minister, made efforts but the corruption increased and is still going in the Governor’s Rule.”
“I appeal Mehbooba don’t give space to any corrupt people in the PDP,” he said, admitting that PDP ministers did not address grievances of party workers.
“Your anger is justified. An MLA told me that a minister did not meet him to solve his problems. If ministers were not listening to MLAs how one would expect they would meet workers,” Beigh said.
“You are angry still you came in thousands in numbers. Please forgive us if any minister made any mistake,” he said.
Minutes after Beigh’s speech, Mehbooba hit at him saying, “We had complete transparency in recruitments. Our ministers did not indulge in corruption. Our ministers did not build any new houses.”
“My workers may have differences with MLAs, ministers, and with me. But we were fighting both in the Centre to defend state special status and to stop killings. We could not do much for people due to several issues,” she said.
Thanking her party workers who had turned up at the function, Mehbooba said: “I remained silent during past two years. But today I will talk to you. But you are the workers of my party. Who else to tell other than you? My father and I are indebted to you.”
She claimed that she did not “compromise” during her tenure as CM of Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba said that she met Prime Minister Narendra Modi several times to urge him to initiate a dialogue with Pakistan and Hurriyat leaders.
Mehbooba has been making efforts to keep her flock of 28 legislators together. However, the disgruntled leaders are staying away from party activities. They did not attend the function on Saturday.
Five rebel legislators Imran Raza Ansari, Javaid Hussain Beigh, Abdul Majeed Padroo, Yasir Reshi, and Saifudin Bhat also addressed a joint press conference where they called Mehbooba “incompetent” to head the party.
