Govt orders revocation of individual Arms Licenses

GJ REPORT SRINAGAR, JUL 14: The government has ordered revocation of individual Arms Licenses issued by different District Magistrates and also stopped issuance of fresh licences. According to an Order Number 922 issued by Home Department, no fresh individual arms license shall be issued by the District Magistrates of the State of Jammu and Kashmir till further orders. The District Magistrates shall take urgent steps to revoke all such Individual Arms Licences issued to various persons (excluding the personnel belonging to the State Police, Army and CAPFs), the Order reads. The District Magistrates shall also direct all such persons, whose license is revoked, to deposit any arms or ammunition, with the Officer in-charge of the nearest Police Station, in terms of Section ’21 of the Arms Act, 1959, failing which action as warranted under law shall be initiated. This action shall be concluded within 15 days of issue of this order and compliance reported to the Home Department. All District Magistrates have been asked to ensure strict compliance with the provisions contained in Arm Rules 2016, at the stage of renewal of an Arms License. The action has been taken following reports regarding certain arrests in connection with the alleged fake arms license racket.
