JAMMU, JUL 5: It is happening as it was being expected. Bharatiya Janta Party, the coalition partner in the previous PDP-led regime in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, which collapsed on June 19 after the former withdrew support, has started credit-claiming exercise for the developmental works being initiated during Governor’s Rule.
Though BJP withdrew its support after over three years rule in coalition with the PDP and failed to do much substantial work for Jammu Province which provided excessive mandate to the party to enjoy the power first time in the state, yet after imposition of Governor’s Rule on June 20, it had started claiming credits of even the initiatives being taken during the Governor’s Rule.
BJP’s arch-political rivals have already dismissed the BJP’s claim that it withdrew support in the larger national interest to save the state for an impending disaster and accused it (BJP) of quitting the Mehbooba government to please its vote-bank and replicate 2014 in 2019.
The agenda of BJP’s credit-claiming exercise came to fore when the party started circulating congratulatory messages regarding starting of work on the much-publicised project All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) soon after authorities laid foundation stone of boundary wall in Samba.
It is pertinent to mention that RS Tara, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, had laid the foundation stone of the boundary wall last week to cover over 1,900 acres of land identified for the project after imposition of Governor’s Rule.
Finding that the work on setting up of AIIMS at Samba is likely to get an impetus after laying of the foundation stone of the boundary wall, State unit of BJP issued an advertisement ‘Ensuring Quality Healthcare’ congratulating the people regarding start of the work on the AIIMS Project. The advertisement which was widely circulated on social media to claim credits of the prestigious project, was carrying photographs of senior BJP leaders from J&K state besides Prime Minister and Union Health Minister.
Why BJP could not do substantial work in its 38 months regime in the state and soon after breaking up alliance it started indulging
in credit-claiming exercise even the works being initiated in the Governor’s Rule, said a political analyst. It is known fact that AIIMS project got delayed due to political interference in non-eviction of land for the project and now when after the imposition of the Governor’s rule in the state, interference of politicians has virtually stopped in the day-to-day functioning of different departments, the BJP has still started claiming credits as soon as the authorities initiated work to complete the “dream” project, he added.
The Governor’s Rule would hasten the process of developmental activities in all the three regions of the state like it happened in the past. People of Jammu and Ladakh always welcomed Governor’s rule because it used to be by and large fair.
It was in the BJP-PDP govt that an order with regard to the tribal settlements was issued with the saffron Ministers acting as mute spectators. Whereas the PDP leadership refused to budge even an inch with respect to its core philosophy, it was the BJP which surrendered, said JKNPP Chairman Harsh Dev Singh in a statement, adding BJP is trying to cover up their failures and shortcomings.
It was being expected that the BJP, which has played a political gimmick and wants to encourage voters , under Governor’s Rule, eyeing 2019 Parliamentary polls, said another political analyst. Why the BJP took such a long time in deciding the fate of people of Jammu, who had allegedly faced discrimination at hands of Kashmir-centric politics since decades, he questioned.
Governor N N Vohra is a competent administrator and he will surely provide good governance to the people of the state as he has provided in his three previous stints of Central Rule during his tenure but the BJP has been trying to politicize the matters to claim the sympathy of the people.
A Senior Congress leader said, BJP has played a political gimmick by breaking alliance as they knew that 2019 Parliamentary polls will not be a cakewalk for them. The projects they are talking about, none of it was conceived, executed and delivered by the BJP, he said, adding that the saffron brigade should stop claiming credit for the initiatives of the authorities during Governor’s Rule.
“Why did BJP not able to get all these works done when in government with the PDP even having their dispensation in the Centre,” he questioned.
As per reports, the Samba administration has identified land measuring 350 kanals in Tarapur and Dagra villages to properly rehabilitate these nomadic families. The farmers, whose lands have been notified by the department for acquisition for the establishment of AIIMS, were waiting for the ‘families’ to be shifted to other places so that work on the construction of prestigious hospital is not delayed any further. Nearly 215 families living in the forest land will be shifted to nearby areas, where land has been identified for their rehabilitation.
