JAMMU: All hopes of Jammuites were dashed today as the National president of ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) escaped to make mention about the abrogation of Article 370, that too, on the martyrdom day of a stalwart, who throughout his life, fought for abrogation of the same Article.
BJP National president Amit Shah, who was in Jammu in connection with the death anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, skipped to mention anything about the abrogation of Article 370 providing special status to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
What to say of abrogation of the said Article, Shah preferred even not to make mention of it in his over half an hour speech in the city while addressing a rally of BJP workers.
People of Jammu were hoping high that Amit Shah will issue a statement regarding abrogation of Article 370, as it was his first visit after pulling out of coalition in State. As party has withdrawn the support to its ally Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on June 19 resulting into fall of the Coalition in the state followed by the imposition of Governor Rule, BJP National president should have made specific mention about the stand of his party on the Article 370 as its abrogation was main agenda for the party in its election manifesto but have put it in a back-burner after joining hands with the PDP, said a local, adding that it seems that the party has forgotten one of its main agendas, Does the party also consider the provision in the Constitution as a bridge between India and Jammu and Kashmir as the former CM Mehbooba Mufti used to mention during her speeches, he questioned.
Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had sacrificed his life for the Abrogation of Article 370 but party’s National president escaped even to make mention of the issue on which their ideal leader made sacrifice, said another local. Was the participation of Amit Shah in Dr Prasad’s death anniversary just a formality?, he questioned.
Dr Mukherjee was a stalwart, who throughout his life, fought for abrogation of Article 370 but BJP leaders did not make any mention of Article even after break-up with PDP, which is a matter of surprise for the people, said a political analyst, adding what was fun of converting a simple function into a rally.
The parties like PDP, National Conference and others have already opposed abrogation of Article 370 but if the mainstream parties like BJP, which has been ruling the country, is escaping even to make mention of the Article indicates that the party has either diluted its stand on abrogation of Article 370 or sidelined the issue, he added.
