Detailed report on seizure of syringes, empty vials submitted

Jammu: Officials asked to investigate seizure of blood stained syringes and empty vials near the washroom of the Indoor Complex of the Maulana Azad Stadium have submitted their report to higher ups.
Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council Secretary Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra had ordered the probe after a UNI expose.
“‘A detailed report have been submitted to the office of the Chief Sports Officer, which will further be handed over to the Secretary for further action,” an official here said on Wednesday.
He said that many issues concerning sports and players were raised in the report after holding thorough discussions with the coaches and employees of the Council.
The official added that shortage of manpower, installation of CCTVs inside the stadium premises and security enhancement were among the issues raised in the report.
“‘It has also been submitted that if any player in any type of drug consumption or steroids, his membership will immediately be cancelled and he will be banned from participating all formats competitions of national and international repute,” official sources said.
J&K State Sports Council had launched a cleanliness drive to destroy blood-stained syringes and empty vials found near the washroom of indoor complex.
Members active in the official Whatsapp group of the J&K Sports Council also sought immediate address of the menace.
Grant-in-aid amounting to Rs 14.30 crore was sanctioned on June 12 for block level sports in J&K by the Union Home Ministry.
The fund was sanctioned by the Union Sports Ministry under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme.
An amount of Rs 10 lakh per block will be spent under the scheme in all the 143 blocks of the state’s 22 districts, the Home Ministry said in a statement.
The central grant of Rs 14.30 crore will be used to provide soft support in terms of coaches, equipment, consumables, technical support, organising competitions, including boarding and lodging facilities, and travelling expenses for participants, among others. (UNI)
