Two policemen killed in militant attack in Pulwama

Srinagar, Jun 12: Two personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police were killed in a militant attack at Pulwama in the wee hours of Tuesday when people were busy observing Shab-i-Qadr in mosques and other religious places across the valley, a police spokesman said.
He said a group of militants attacked a guard post at Pulwama Court complex with automatic weapons. Police guards also retaliated and in the exchange of fire two policemen were killed. The deceased were identified as Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Hassan.
He said security forces and police personnel have been rushed and the area has been cordoned off.
Meanwhile five CRPF jawans were injured in a grenade attack by militants in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir early today.
“Militants hurled a grenade on CRPF party at Janglat Mandi in Anantnag. Five CRPF personnel got minor injuries,” a police spokesman said.
He said all the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment where their condition is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has strongly condemned the killing of two Policemen in a pre-dawn attack at Pulwama today.
In a statement, the Chief Minister described the act as highly reprehensible which was committed in a night during which the entire Muslim Ummah was seeking forgiveness from Allah (SWT).
Mehbooba Mufti cautioned people against such incidents which have the potential of depriving them from the gains of the peace moves like suspension of security operations and dialogue offer undertaken by the State and Central Governments recently.
She asked people to stand guard of the positivity generated by these peace moves on the ground which has given them ample relief and ease.
The Chief Minister has conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved families of the slain cops while praying for peace to the departed souls.
