CBI asks Interpol to issue Red Corner Notice against Nirav Modi

NEW DELHI, June 11: The Central Bureau of Investigation has approached the Interpol seeking red corner notices (RCN) against Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi in Punjab National Bank scam worth R 13,578 crore. The RCN request, which has been sent recently, will empower police agencies of 190 member-countries to locate and arrest Nirav Modi and Choksi. Interpol will take a call on CBI’s request soon, said sources.
The development comes even as UK’s minister of state for countering extremism – Baroness Williams is learnt to have assured MoS for home Kiren Rijiju “full cooperation” in the extradition of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and others from London. The UK authorities are learnt to have confirmed to Indian authorities about presence of Nirav Modi there. TOI, quoting Indian high commission officials in London, had first reported on May 14 that Nirav Modi was living in London. Meanwhile, investigating agency CBI claimed that it is yet to get any confirmation about Nirav Modi’s location.
