KATHUA, JUN 5: Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua organised a function in collaboration with NSS Unit of College to celebrate World Environment Day. The function was organised with an objective to create awareness among students about growing menace of pollution caused by plastic waste. Principal of the College, Prof K C Badgal was the Chief Guest while Dr Deepshikha Sharma, Head of Environmental Sciences presented keynote address on the occasion.
Prof Sharma urged the students and people to take necessary measures to end menace of plastic from their surroundings. “Plastic bags choke drains and gutters, causing them to overflow. Burning plastic also results in release of toxic gases,” she added. She further said that students have an important role to play in environmental protection.
Students of Environmental Sciences Department also expressed their views on topic and performed a skit on the theme.
Prof Neha Gupta conducted proceedings of the programme while the Prof Neeru presented formal vote of thanks.
