Fire breaks out in Trikuta Hills

Jammu, May 26: A day after forest fire was successfully doused in Trikuta Hills, the fire yet again broke out on Saturday evening thus forcing the Shrine Board authorities to suspend pilgrimage via newly opened Tarakote Marg and Battery car track in Katra town of Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Fire broke out again in the woods of Trikuta Hills on Saturday evening,” official sources here said.
They said that in view of devastating fire, the yatra registration counters were closed at 2000 hours while by that time, more than 31,000 pilgrims had left the Katra base camp to perform yatra to the Cave Shrine.
“The yatra is in progress from old track,” they said adding that after suspension of the yatra, pilgrims, between 15,000 to 20,000 are stranded at the base camp and will be allowed only after the fire will be extinguished.
Earlier the fire broke out on May 24 and was extinguished by the Indian Air Force sorties and Army choppers with the assistance of Shrine Board Employees, Police, Para-military forces.
“No injury or major loss has been reported so far in the fire,” they added.
