Prime Minister to attend 6th Convocation of SKUAST-J on May 19

JAMMU, MAY 15: Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) Prof Pradeep Kumar Sharma informed that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will address 6th Convocation of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) during his visit to the State on May 19. He further said that it is a great occasion for SKUAST-Jammu that the Prime Minister is visiting the campus for the Convocation and has accepted the request to be the Chief Guest on the occasion, which would have a long lasting influence on students of the university.
Prof Pradeep Kumar Sharma was addressing a Press Conference in Jammu today.
Giving further details, he briefed that Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti alongwith a galaxy of dignitaries including policymakers, academicians, administrators, members of University Council and Board of Management shall be gracing the convocation with their presence. He informed that SKUAST-Jammu has three faculties viz Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Basic Sciences at Chatha and Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry at R S Pura. The university imparts various degree programmes at Graduation, Post-graduation and Doctorate level of all three faculties comprising 16 disciplines in Agricultural Sciences, 16 disciplines of Veterinary Sciences, 4 disciplines of Basic Sciences in its Masters programme and 31 disciplines in Doctoral programme. In addition to this, the University is running short term/skill oriented certificate courses leading to self employment. During 2017-18, the University was ranked 10th among all State Agricultural Universities in the country.
He further stated that the University was second in getting maximum numbers of ICAR-JRF fellowships in veterinary sciences and KVK Jammu was awarded with Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Puruskaar for Zone 1 for year 2016-17.
Dr Dileep Kachroo, Registrar SKUAST-J, briefed that SKUAST-Jammu, in its 6th Convocation, shall award 444 degrees to 215 Graduates, 174 Post-graduates and 55 Doctoral programmes. Moreover 6 Gold Medals (Under-graduate programmes) shall be awarded to meritorious students, 100 merit certificates (Post-Graduates and Doctoral programmes) will also be awarded to meritorious students from this university. The convocation will start at 3.15 pm on Saturday, 19th May, 2018 in Baba Jitto auditorium of SKUAST-Jammu at Chatha.
