JAMMU, May 15: Tawi Trekkers, J&K shall start its summer season with J&K Himalayan Trekking Programme in the sylvan surroundings of Moungri area from May 23. On every alternate day, a group of about 40 children would leave Jammu for the three days adventure in which about 500 boys and girls in the age group of 10 to 14 years are expected to participate.
“The programme shall continue till June 17. During the three-day programme in the beautiful, calm and serene Moungri hills, about 50 kilometers from Udhampur, practical lessons in Rock Climbing, Rapelling, Jumaring, artificial river crossing and other adventure activities shall be given by experts in the field besides trekking to the sacred Shiv Parvati cave and Gouri Mitti meadow,” organising secretary of the programme, Sonam Sidharth said.
The trekkers shall also learn about the bio diversity of the area during this unique venture which promises an experience of a lifetime to the participants. The participation fee of this adventure programme which includes transportation, boarding, lodging, refreshments and any incidental charges besides supervision by expert trekkers is Rs 1650 only, added Sonam, who is also joint secretary of Tawi Trekkers.
For boarding and lodging of the participants the camp has been established at Youth Hostel, Moungri wherefrom all the activities shall be conducted under the supervision of camp leaders.
Besides initiating young boys and girls into adventure life by offering them a healthy outdoor activity during summer season the purpose of the programme is also to highlight the adventure tourism potential of the otherwise neglected and lesser known beauty spots of Jammu and thus bring them on the tourist map of J&K.
Everester Ram Singh Slathia heads the task force committee as Field Director. Manik Slathia, Shashikant, Sakshi Magotra, Deepika Dutta, Mrigank Kaushal, Himani Choudhary and Akshay Sadotra are camp leaders.
It is worth mentioning here that Tawi Trekkers J&K is a voluntary, social and adventure sports organization run by a group of highly dedicated young boys and girls whose only aim is to spread the spirit of adventure and love of nature amongst all strata of society without distinction of cast, color, class or creed.
