BJP’s Lal Singh holds roadshow, seeks CBI probe, CM’s resignation

Jammu, Apr 17: Days after stepping down from the Mehbooba Mufti dispensation, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Basholi, Choudhary Lal Singh, held a road show in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua on Tuesday to support the kin of the accused in the rape and murder of the eight-year-old nomad girl.
Lal Singh reaffirmed his demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe in the brutality which had shaken the nation.
Alongwith minister for industries Chander Prakash Ganga, Lal Singh had tendered resignation to party president Sat Sharma after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had sought their sacking for allegedly supporting the people of village Rassana in demanding a CBI probe in the Kathua rape and murder case and taking part in a rally organised on March 1 by the ‘Bharat Ekta Manch.’
Waving the tricolour and holding placards demanding a CBI probe, thousands of people on Tuesday afternoon participated in the road show led by Lal Singh.
In his address, the former forest minister of J&K held the demand for a federal probe genuine and said that there is no harm in holding the CBI enquiry for justice to everyone.
He however, also alleged Mehbooba Mufti’s hand in glove with the Separatists asserting that she was being dictated by them on not allowing CBI probe in Kathua case.
No BJP or any political party flag was seen waving at the rally except the National Flag.
Singh said that nothing less than CBI probe will be accepted and the agitation will further be intensified if the demand is not conceded.
Singh also called for the resignation of J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti for her “failure” to address the issue.
The former forest minister said the chief minister had failed to understand the popular sentiment and was yet to seek a CBI probe into the brutal incident.
It is her (Mehbooba Mufti’s) biggest failure. If she has wisdom and conscience, she should resign, Singh told reporters here.
“If two ministers can sacrifice their posts in the interest of peace, those who are actually responsible for creating such an atmosphere should listen to their conscience,” he said targeting the PDP leader.
Asked about his decision to resign from the state government, Singh blamed the media for “creating a perception”, thus forcing him to take such a step.
“We resigned because the perception created by the national media was not good. It portrayed the situation in a wrong way, which was not the case at all. It was portrayed that the entire Jammu region was siding with rapists,” he claimed.
On Monday evening in an interview to a news channel here, Lal Singh had said that if Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath could transfer the probe of the Unnao rape case to the CBI, then what was wrong in this instance.
A CBI probe, Lal Singh said, will bring justice to all, including the victim and the accused.
“We also met the Chief Minister with a viewpoint of the people to transfer the case to the CBI but she refused,” Lal Singh asserted.
The BJP leader said that he resigned because the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was being tarnished by some people.
