JAMMU, APR 14: Gorkha Cricket Club today made it a narrow four-run win against star-studded side of National Cricket Club (NCC) in the ongoing 1st Patel memorial Twenty20 Invitational Cup at Parade Ground here.
Batting first, after winning the toss, Gorkha Club set a target of 144 runs losing all their wickets in 19.1 overs. Rahul, Kavit and Saqib remained main contributors to the total with 34, 27 and 22 runs respectively. Pranav Mahajan and Abhishant were most successful bowlers with three wickets each, followed by Rakesh, who took two.
In reply, NCC were close to the winning mark but they lost all their wickets for 139 runs sparing three deliveries of their innings. The equation was 34 runs needeed in remaining four overs and in the 17th over Bakshi scored 19 runs to make it an achievable target of 15 runs in three overs with three wickets remaining.
However, the batsmen at the crease could not control their excitement and lost the wickets in two overs to leave the side struggling with four runs required in the final over with last batsman at the crease.
Pranav, who was at the crease, did not score in first two deliveries and then in the third ball he tried a big hit which was caught by mid-off fielder thereby the team lost the game by four runs. Gokul made 24 runs while Samad and Abhishant contributed 22 runs each.
From Gorkha Club, Rahul took four wickets and Saqib secured three. Ashu bagged two. Later, Rahul was named as man of the match for his all round innings. Sudhir Singh, Amit Gupta and Rahul Kumar officiated the match. Fixture: Saffron Cricket Club shall take on Simbal Wala Club at 9 am tomorrow.
