Public toilets to make Jammu open-defecation free: Priya Sethi

JAMMU APR 4: In order to maintain hygiene and end open-defacaton besides going by the principals of Swatch Bharat, the Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Department of Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi today inaugurated a SAAF Toilet complex at B C Park near Indira Chowk. MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta and BJP Vice-President, Yudhvir Sethi were also present on the occasion.
Constructed at a cost of Rs. 18 lakh under supervision of JMC, the complex houses a room for caretaker, 6 WCs, 1 bathroom and 3 urinals. While the land for the complex was provided by the Floriculture Department, it would be maintained by Lakshya Social Service organization, for next 30 year.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the complex has been constructed keeping in view peoples’ need besides ending open-defacaton in the area. She said the complex would facilitate people and help in maintaining better sanitation in the area. Highlighting importance of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, Priya Sethi stressed upon involving all stakeholders in effective implementation of this flagship programme in a mission mode.
MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta urged people to rededicate their efforts for making their surroundings neat and clean for pollution-free environment. He also exhorted upon the people to contribute in the Mission Clean India as a social responsibility.
BJP State Vice President, Yudhvir Sethi, in his address said that JMC has successfully launched various campaigns and initiatives to make the winter capital clean. He said that that the prime objective of constructing these complexes in city and its peripheries, is to ensure that Jammu becomes clean, hygiene and open-defecation free.
