DODA, MAR 26: With the objective of creating awareness among the farmers, one day Kissan Mela and Exhibition was organised by the Agriculture department here today. The programme was held under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) ATMA.
Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Hanjura inaugurated the Mela and Exhibition in presence of MLA Doda Shakti Raj Parihar, Director Agriculture H K Razdan, Director General Sericulture Mir Tariq Ali, DDC Doda Bhawani Rakwal and SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir.
The mela commenced with the inspection of stalls put up by progressive farmers of Doda district and some government departments. The stalls displayed samples of agricultural products, implements, tools and machinery, plant protection products.
Addressing the farmers in the jam packed Kissan Ghar, Hanjura spoke at length about the plans, policies and programmes of the department launched by the government for raising the economic status of farmers of the state.
“Our government is committed to bring about a visible change in the agriculture sector and ensure doubling of farmers’ income by the year 2022,” said the minister. He said that the government aims to make agriculture a vibrant and remunerative sector and urged upon the farmers to take benefit of the schemes launched by the department of Agriculture.
“70% of our population is connected with agriculture, this way or that way, and for that matter it is very backbone of our economy,” said the minister and added that despite shrinking of agriculture land due to various reasons, agricultural produce has registered an upward trend due to the efforts of the department and the farmers.
Among others who addressed the gathering included Shakti Raj Parihar MLA Doda HK Razdan Director Agriculture, Bhawani Rakwal DDC Doda.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks presented by Nasir Ahmed Zargar, District Agriculture Officer Doda.
