Day temperature improves, evening remains chilly in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 23: The weather remained pleasant for the second successive day due to sunshine though evening turned chilly owing to cloudy skies coupled with ice cold winds in Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, the night temperature remained above normal at majority of the places in the valley, where light rain and thunderstorms could occur at isolated places during the next 24 hours.
A Met department spokesperson said that light rain or thundershowers could occur at isolated places during the next 24 hours in the Kashmir valley.
Even though there was a slight improvement from Thursday in the night temperature, the border town of Kargil was still the coldest place in the region at minus 3 degree, followed by Leh, where mercury dipped and settled at minus 2.8 degree.
He said skies will be generally cloudy during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 14 degree and minus 2 degree, respectively.
After witnessing a dip of over a degree in the night temperature from Thursday, people woke up to a pleasant Friday morning in summer capital, Srinagar, where the maximum temperature improved due to sunshine.
However, as the day progressed sun played hide and seek, which resulted in slight dip in the temperature. Against 6.7 degree recorded on Thursday, the night temperature in Srinagar was 5.3 degree, which is slightly above normal. The maximum temperature recorded on Friday was 6 degree above normal.
The spokesperson said that there is possibility of light rain or thundershowers during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 20 degree and 6 degree, respectively.
Tourists, including skies and adventure lovers, enjoyed a sunny day in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where ski slopes are covered under several feet of snow. However, as the day progressed sun played hide and seek, resulting in dip in the temperature.
The mercury in the ski resort improved and settled at minus 1 degree, against minus 2 degree recorded on Thursday. The night temperature in Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, was still above normal.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir also witnessed a improvement of about a degree from Thursday in the night temperature, which settled at 0.1 degree.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag settled at 2.8 degree, 4 degree and 4.3 degree, respectively.
