Bar Association accords farewell to Chief Justice

JAMMU, MAR 13: J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu today held an impressive function to bid farewell to Justice Bader Durrez Ahmed, the Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir, who have to demit the office of the Chief Justice on superannuation on 15th March, 2018.
The function started with presentation of bouquets to Justice Bader Durrez Ahmed by the Judges of High Court, Chairman Accountability Commission, Justice B A Khan and other former Judges including Justice K K Gupta, Justice O P Sharma, Justice Sunil Hali and advocates including U K Jalali, Sunil Sethi, K S Johal, Surinder Kour, Daya Ram Khajuria, Abhinav Sharma, Adarsh Sharma, Gagan Basotra and Veenu Gupta. A memento and a Shawl was also presented to Justice Bader Durrez Ahmed by the team of BAJ office-bearers led by B S Slathia (President), Sachin Gupta (Vice-President), Prem Sadotra (General Secretary), Himanshu Sharma (Joint Secretary) and Chetan Misri (Treasurer).
While addressing the gathering, President BAJ, B S Slathia said that Justice Bader Durrez Ahmed is a good human being and a kind hearted person, belonging to a cultured family. His remarkable sense of justice and fairness combined with simplicity and brilliance, has been his hallmarks as a Judge of High Court. He further said that Justice Ahmed always treated all lawyers equally and did not believe in face-law, this quality of him was admired by all the members of the Association. Slathia further stated that Justice Ahmed has brought a revolution in equipping the Courts in the State.
While speaking on the occasion, the Chief Justice lauded the role of legal fraternity of J&K and role played by members of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu in extending their sincere cooperation and assistance in conducting the court proceedings. He expressed gratitude for the cooperation received by him from his colleagues as well as members of the Bar Association. He further stated that he had very short tenure in the State and whatever possible he could do, he has put all his efforts to take the Courts to new heights and on date, J&K is leading in the digitalization field and has taken the lead in deciding cases by holding Video-conferencing. He also suggested the members of the Association to refrain from suspension of work in the courts as it causes great hardships to the justice seekers in the Courts. He further stated that notwithstanding his retirement, he shall always be available to extend his helping hand for the betterment of the Institution- particularly in making the e-courts.
