Tourism building torched in 2016 agitation yet to get repaired

JAMMU, FEB 27: More than a one and a half year has passed since a tourism building on National Highway in Awantipora area of South Kashmir Pulwama was torched during 2016 turmoil, but Government is yet to reconstruct or repair it. Locals said that despite tall claims of the Government that huge amounts have been spent on tourism sector, nothing is visible on ground level. They further added that after 2016 agitation, officials visited the spot numerous times and promised for constructing the building soon but all their promises proved to be hoax.
An employee working at the Tourist Cafeteria Awantipora said that neither the building of the Tourism Cafeteria was repaired or reconstructed nor any attention was given towards its park and bathrooms.”Land specified for park must be leveled as a part of the same is quite down while another is about 20 feet higher. The doors and windows of bathrooms are also in dilapidated condition and require immediate repair,” he informed. Tourists still spot here on seeing the signboard of Tourist Cafeteria, but after watching the condition of building, they leave the spot in a jiffy, he added. On contacting Director Tourism, Mehmood Ahmed Shah, he said that the building has been torched twice, which indicate that locals do not want tourism building, however, every possible step to restore the building would be taken at an earliest, he added.
