JAMMU, FEB 27: Today on the request of President CCI, Rakesh Gupta, IGP Traffic J&K, Basant Kumar Rath visited Chamber House. Presidents of more than 50 Business Associations and prominent members of CCI were also present on the occasion. Chamber President submitted a memorandum to the IGP suggesting many measures to improve traffic system further.
On this occasion, the IGP indicated that Parkings in Bazars may be converted into paid-parkings and no Reharis shall be allowed. No encroachments shall be allowed around rotaries, footpaths would be cleared and no shopkeepers would be allowed to cross shutter level for encroaching footpaths.
Chamber also suggested that some roads in old city may be made one-way and also requested that the dropping facility at the Railway Station should be made free for all. Other suggestions highlighted in the memorandum included loopholes should be plugged, identification of areas which do not have allotted parking spaces, mentioning speed limit restrictions on walls visible to all, making buses and Matadors to stop at designated stops only, making meters of Auto-Rickshaws functional, fixing sign-boards at different locations etc.
