Chess training programme begins at Kathua

KATHUA, FEB 24: Chess training program for Kathua district, initiated by All J&K Chess Association, started today at Pathway International school here under its Chess in schools programme.
Lecture on basic chess rules was delivered by president of the Association and also chief patron chess in schools programme in the presence of chairman, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal and Dr Divij Suri president.
In the meantime, a district level chess tournament was also organised. The competition was inaugurated by Principal Women’s Degree College Kathua, Dr. Kulvinder Kour.
In this event, Abhay Pratap Singh, Anik Andotra and Adhiraj Singh won gold medals in boys sections while Pragun Sharma, Shreyal Yadav and Sannidhya Singh were winners in girls categories. Medals, mementoes and gifts were distributed among the winners by Atul Kumar Gupta, Dr SP Suri Director of the school and Kuljeet Singh Jamwal.
Also present were Amarnath Biswas , R Sharma, Arun Manhas. Pathway International school has also decided to start chess as a compulsory subject in the school on Russian pattern.
