JAMMU: The elections to the Board of Directors of J&K Cooperative Housing Corporation Ltd. have been postponed to 25th March 2018. The information was provided by the Registrar Cooperative Societies Jammy while talking to Greater Jammu here today. The Registrar said the decision to postpone the elections which were scheduled to be held on 5th March 2018, was taken on the basis of an application filed before it by a cooperative house building society. In the application the applicant had sought issuance of directions for publishing the list of all eligible societies for conducting of fair/impartial elections to the J&K Cooperative Housing Corporation Ltd. and in order to enable all such societies to participate in the elections. It has also sought appointment of board of administrators as the term of elected board of directors of J&K Cooperative Housing Corporation Ltd. has already expired on 18th September, 2017. The application claims that publishing the list of eligible societies to vote and participate in the election, is a condition precedent for holding a free, fair and impartial election of The J&K Cooperative Housing Corporation Ltd. It is pertinent to mention here that section 29 (4) of the J&K Cooperative Societies Act 1989 clearly envisages that the term of the office of the Committee (Board of Directors/governing body) of J&K Cooperative Housing Building Corporation shall be three years only. It further provides that where any Committee ceases to hold the office and no Committee has been constituted in accordance with law and Rules and by laws made there-under, it’s an obligation, in law, to appoint an administrator to take steps for constitution of a new Committee in accordance with law. In the instant case till date no Board of Administrators has been appointed for conducting free and fair elections to the J&K Cooperative Housing Corporation Ltd, despite lapse of so many months.
