1 CRPF personnel killed in ongoing Karan Nagar encounter: Govt

Jammu, Feb 12: Minister for Revenue, Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri informed the house that a CRPF personnel has been killed in the ongoing encounter between militants and security forces in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar.
Giving details of the incident, the Minister said that at about 4:30 am on Monday, a sentry at CRPF 23 Battalion Headquarter Karan Nagar Srinagar spotted two militants carrying Pithu bags & armed with AK 47 rifles and opened fire due to which the militants escaped towards a nearby locality.
The Minister said at about 10 hours, while conducting search in the area, the search party was fired upon near Gole Market Karan Nagar which was retaliated leading to an encounter. He said the militants have been cornered in an abandoned house near 23 Bn CRPF headquarters and the encounter is still on.
Ashwani, Saleem co-opted as members of State News Media Accreditation Committee

Jammu, Feb 12: The Government has co-opted Ashwani Kumar, President, Press Club Jammu and Mohammad Saleem Pandit, President, Press Club Kashmir as the members of the State News Media Accreditation (SMAC), constituted vide Govt Order No: 37-ID of 2016 dated: 07-12-2016.
The Government has also rechristened the State Press Accreditation Committee (SPAC) as State News Media Accreditation Committee (SNMAC).
The other members of the SNMAC include Bashir Manzar, Editor Kashmir Images; Shuja-ul-Haq, Bureau Chief, India Today TV; Taufiq Rashid, Bureau Chief, Hindustan Times; Manish Gupta, Resident Editor, Early Times; Vivek Sharma, Correspondent, State Times; Pradeep Dutta, Bureau Chief, Times Now; Tariq Lone, Video Journalist, Aaj Tak; Farooq Javaid Khan, Photojournalist, Rising Kashmir; Rajnesh Bakshi, Video Journalist, IBN7 and Channi Anand, Photo Journalist Associated Press.
The Director Information & Public Relations is the Member Secretary of the Accreditation Committee.
Pertinently, the Government has extended the term of the SNMAC constituted vide Govt Order No: 37-ID of 2016 dated: 07-12-2016 for the year 2017-18 as no meeting of the Accreditation Committee could take place last year.
The Department of Information and Public Relations has already invited applications, in the prescribed format, from the media-persons for issuance of new accreditations and review/updating of the existing accreditations. The meeting of the SNMAC is likely to be convened soon.
Father, son killed by lightning in Reasi

Jammu, Feb 12:A father and son died today when lightning struck their house in Reasi district, police said. Lightning struck in Launcha area of Mahore tehsil in the district at 1600 hours today resulting in death of 30-year-old Ali Mohammad and his 3-year-old son Shabir, a police officer said.
20 passengers injured as buses collide head on in Rajouri

Jammu, Feb 12: At least 20 passengers suffered injuries as two buses collided head-on in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. “Two overspeeding buses coming from opposite directions in Monday collided head-on near Doodhadari temple here on Rajouri-Poonch highway,” police said. They said at least 20 people were injured in the mishap. Police and locals rushed to the spot and shifted injured to the district hospital.
Swayam Prakash Pani takes over as IGP Kashmir

Jammu, Feb 12:Swayam Prakash Pani, a 2000-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, today took over as the new inspector general of police (IGP) Kashmir Range, making him the youngest officer to hold the post.
Pani (41), an IPS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, took over the charge of the IGP Kashmir, a police official said. He said Pani is the youngest officer to hold the post of the IGP Kashmir and his name was cleared in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti last week.
He replaced Munir Ahmad Khan, who was holding the charge of the IGP Kashmir range, and has been appointed as additional director general of police (ADGP) security and home guards, the official said. Pani has served in key positions, including deputy inspector general of police, south Kashmir range, senior superintendent of police, Kulgam and Kathua. He has also served in the Intelligence Bureau and National Investigation Agency (NIA).
