Minor Girl’s Death: Noisy scenes in J&K Assembly, Opposition stages walkout

Jammu, Jan 18: As soon as the legislative assembly resumed its business on Thursday morning, the opposition members raised the issue of alleged abduction and death of a minor in Kathua.
The National Confer-ence, Congress, one PDP and an independent MLA staged walk-out after they accused government of failure over security of minority in Kathua district.
The Congress MLA, Vikar Rasool, said that a dead body of a minor girl was found on Wednesday. NC legislators, Mian Altaf, Mubarak Gul, Independent Hakim Yasin rose from their seats and asked government to issue statement and investigate the matter.
Parliamentary Affairs minister, Abdul Rehman Veeri, told the assembly that an 8-year-old girl named Asifa had gone missing on January 08, 2018.
“Her father registered a missing report in police station Hira Nagar where he suspected abduction,” Veeri said. “An FIR 10/2018 under 360 RPC was registered and a look-out notice was issued; on Wednesday, the dead body of the minor was found at around 10:30 am in forest area of Kathua which led to protests by Bakerwal community,” he added.
The minister said that speedy investigation has been initiated led SDPO to investigate the matter.
However, Mian Altaf asked the government when shall the report come. “Give us the time frame,” he asked the government.
“Kathua mein minorities par zulum ho raha hai,” yelled Congress’ Vikar Rasool. “Why were policemen doing nothing for last one week; people are angry and protests are being held,” he added.
Registering their protest, Vikar questioned the government over security of girls. “Is it the Beti Bachao, Bati Padao; Bakerwal community par Zulum kiya ja raha hai,” he alleged.
“What are you doing? We will not tolerate it… when will the report come? Give us report in 24 hours,” Saroori asked.
Vikar said that Bakerwal community in Kathua was the most persecuted community.
Saroori demanded immediate suspension of SHO and Dy SP.
A single PDP MLA, Chodhary Qamar Hussain joined opposition in protests and asked his government to table the report within a day.
Amid “nikami sarkar, naalayak sarkar”, the opposition members along with a PDP MLA staged walk-out from the assembly.
Meanwhile expressing her anguish over the abduction and murder of a minor girl belonging to nomadic Bakerwal community in Kathua, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said incidents like this will be investigated expeditiously and the guilty will be punished.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter the Chief Minister said “Outraged by the heinous incident in which a young Bakerwal girl has lost her life. Incidents like this will be investigated expeditiously & the guilty will be punished”.
Deputy Speakers Legislative Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today asked the government to conduct a thorough probe into the mysterious death of a minor girl in Hiranagar area of district Kathua.
Gurezi also directed the government to come up with a statement in the house in this regard.
