JAMMU, JAN 14: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and Power Development Corporation (PDC) today qualified for the semifinals in the ongoing 11th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament, organised by All J&K Christians Welfare Association under the aegis of J&K Football Association at GGM Science College ground, here.
Now, in the semifinals, slated for tomorrow, J&K Police shall take on J&K PDC at 3 pm. Earlier, in the quarterfinals, J&K Police beat Shaheen Football Club (FC) 4-3 via tie-breaker. In the stipulated time the match ended in a goalless draw.
In other quarterfinal of the day, PDC outplayed J&K Bank Football Academy 2-1. The PDC took the first lead in the very third minute of the game through Shakir Showkeil. However, the lead was equalized by Bank Academy in the 31st minute through Sandeep Singh.
Entering the second half of the play with score on board 1-1, both sides indulged in attacks and counter attacks. It was in the 55th minute that PDC got the breakthrough when Bilal Ahmed netted the ball to guide the side to a 2-1 win.
Today’s matches were officiated by Vijay Kumar, Dheeraj Menia, Suresh Gupta, Hilal Ahmed, Rocky Sharma, Ricky, Rinku Gill, Rakesh Kumar and Mohinder (Physio).
President of JKFA, Jameel Thakur was special guest in today’s matches. Among those who witnessed the important matches were Fayaz Ahmed Sofi, Sheikh Mehmood (president DFA Jammu), S M Gill (ex-MLC), Showkat Ahmed, Narinder Kumar, Feistus Sotra, Yusuf Don and David Masih.
Fixture: J&K Forests shall take on JKSRTC in quarterfinals at 1 pm while J&K Police to meet JKPDC at 3 pm in the semifinal tomorrow.
