Brodi FC, Sungwali Mandi win opening ties

HIRANAGAR, JAN 14: Brodi Football Club (FC) and Sungwali Mandi FC emerged winners on the inaugural day of the Invitational Gold Cup (league-cum-knockout) Football Tournament, organised by Hiranagar Football club under the aegis of J&K Football Association (JKFA) at Sports Stadium, here today.
While Brodi Club beat Jasrota Warriors FC 4-0, Sungwali Mandi blanked Dhanni FC 5-0. Today’s matches were conducted by the technical panel including Dinesh Verma, Arun Pal Singh, Aniket Singh, Lalit Jamwal and Rakesh Singh.
Earlier, the event was declared open by Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Kuldeep Raj, who interacted with the teams and appreciated the zeal and spirit among the organisers, Surinder Singh Pathania, president of Hiranagar Football Club.
The inaugural event was also visited by Head coach of Indian women’s team, Sajid Yousuf. He was accompanied by State Football Academy coach, Satpal Singh. He (Sajid) motivated the players to pursue the game seriously and talked about its (football) future prospects. He surprised entire football fraternity of region by announcing the opening of SFA sub-centre at Hiranagar to promote football in the area.
Other guests present on the occasion were SDPO Border, Raghuvir Singh, SHO Hiranagar, senior National football player from Jandi, Mohinder Singh, senior SAI football coach, Satish, secretary DFA Kathua, Ajay Sharma, chairman Mehta Football Academy, Abhinav Mehta and president Param Football Club, DySP (Retd), KP Singh.
