Jammu, Jan 13: The festival of Lohri was today celebrated with traditional fervour in this winter capital of the state.
Various social, religious, political organization celebrated Lohri- marking the end of harsh winter season in north India – was celebrated with fervour in Jammu.
In the evening, residents of different localities lit bonfires and offered prayers for the prosperity of the country. Puffed rice, popcorns, “rewaris”, “til” and groundnuts were offered to the bonfire to bid goodbye to cold weather.
To give a festive look to the city of temples, all markets were illuminated by different businessmen’s associations.
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and Governor N N Vohra has extended warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasions of Lohri and Makar Sankranti.
However, various cultural programmes and events were organised at different locations in the city to mark Lohri celebrations.
On Friday, Team Jammu, a social organisation also took out traditional Dogra procession on Lohri.
